Cloud Library
Your recordings are always written locally first. On a paid plan, Capturly also keeps a cloud copy — created while you record, not after — so a crash, a closed laptop, or a guest who vanishes mid-session doesn’t cost you the take.
Availability: Live cloud backup and the library are on Pro, Team, and Lifetime. The Starter plan records locally only.
Live cloud backup
As bytes are written to disk, a second copy streams to your cloud library in parallel. Local capture always wins: if the upload stalls, back-pressures, or the network drops, recording continues unaffected and the upload resumes from where it stopped once the connection returns.
| Platform | How it works |
|---|---|
| Browser | Media tees to local storage and the cloud as it’s encoded |
| Windows desktop | Same tee, through the capture engine |
| macOS desktop | A file tailer follows the recording on disk and uploads as it grows |
| iOS | Optional Live Cloud Backup (Beta), off by default — enable it in Settings |
| Android | Uploads after you stop |
Because the cloud session is registered server-side before recording starts, a machine that dies mid-take can still be recovered later — the bytes that made it up are already there.
Turning it off
Settings > Live cloud backup toggles it for your next take. On iOS the equivalent setting is off by default and opt-in. With backup off, recording is purely local and you upload afterwards if you want a cloud copy.
The library
Open Library in the web app, the desktop app, or on mobile to see everything you’ve saved. From there you can play a take back, rename it, download it, or delete it.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Retention | 30 days from the moment a recording is saved |
| Scope | Yours on Pro and Lifetime; shared across the workspace on Team |
| Contents | Your own takes, plus guest tracks collected from sessions you hosted |
The library is working storage for the window between recording and editing — it is not an archive. Download anything you want to keep before the 30 days are up.
Collecting guest recordings
When a session you hosted ends, every participant’s track uploads to your library automatically, attributed to the person who recorded it. There is nothing to chase and nothing to email.
Unfinished uploads
If an upload never completed — the guest’s browser closed, a laptop slept, a network died — the take isn’t lost. It appears in the library’s Unfinished uploads panel, where you can:
- Recover it — pull down whatever was successfully stored
- Save it to the library as a normal recording
- Discard it and release the space
On a Team plan, org admins see teammates’ unfinished recordings too, with owner attribution — so a host doesn’t have to wait on a guest to rescue a crashed take.
Transfer quota
Cloud uploads draw on a transfer allowance that rolls on a 30-day window.
| Plan | Allowance per 30 days |
|---|---|
| Starter | 5 GB |
| Pro | 500 GB |
| Team | 1 TB, pooled across the workspace |
| Lifetime | 500 GB |
The window rolls forward continuously rather than resetting on a billing date. If you exhaust it, uploads are refused until the window rolls — local recording is never affected. On Team the budget is one shared pool, so a busy week for one host draws from the same allowance as everyone else.
Privacy
Recordings are stored in Capturly’s cloud storage and are accessible to you (and your workspace, on Team). Live call audio and video still travel directly between participants over peer-to-peer connections — the cloud copy is of your own local recording, not of the call.
