Installing Capturly

Capturly runs on macOS, Windows, the browser, and mobile. Visit capturly.app/download  to get the latest version for your platform.

No install needed? The web app records in Chrome, Edge, and Safari with nothing to download. Guests joining your session never need to install anything.

macOS Installation

Requirements

• macOS 12 (Monterey) or later
• Apple Silicon or Intel processor

Steps

1. Download the DMG file from the download page
2. Open the DMG by double-clicking it
3. Drag Capturly to your Applications folder
4. Launch Capturly from Applications or Spotlight
5. Grant permissions when prompted (see below)

The macOS build is signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens on a normal double-click — there’s no right-click workaround to perform.

macOS Permissions

On first launch, macOS will ask for permissions:

If you accidentally denied a permission:

1. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security
2. Find the permission category (Microphone, Camera)
3. Enable the toggle for Capturly

Windows Installation

Requirements

• Windows 10 (version 1903) or Windows 11
• 64-bit processor

From the Microsoft Store (recommended)

Installing from the Microsoft Store  is the simplest path: it skips the SmartScreen prompt, and Windows keeps the app updated for you.

1. Open the Store listing
2. Click Get
3. Launch Capturly from the Start menu

From the installer

The direct .exe installer is the alternative if you’d rather not use the Store, or you’re deploying it yourself.

1. Download the installer (.exe) from the download page
2. Run the installer by double-clicking it
3. Follow the setup wizard prompts
4. Launch Capturly from the Start menu or desktop shortcut
5. Grant permissions when prompted

SmartScreen warning

If Windows SmartScreen shows a warning on the direct installer:

1. Click More info
2. Click Run anyway

The app is code-signed, but SmartScreen can still flag a new release until it has built reputation. Store installs never show this.

Windows Permissions

Windows will prompt for permissions on first use:

If you need to manage permissions later:

1. Open Settings > Privacy & security
2. Under App permissions, select Microphone or Camera
3. Ensure the toggle for Capturly is enabled

Mobile

The Android app is available on Google Play . The iOS app is in App Store review and hasn’t been published yet — the download page  is the place to watch for it.

Browser extension (optional)

Capturly Check is a free browser extension that tests your microphone and camera before a call and warns you about quality problems during meetings on Google Meet, Zoom Web, and Microsoft Teams. It’s separate from the recording app and doesn’t require an account.

Auto-Updates

The desktop app checks for updates on startup and every 4 hours while running. Updates download in the background and install on the next restart.

If you installed from the Microsoft Store, Windows manages updates instead and the in-app updater stays off.

Verifying Your Installation

After installation, verify everything is working:

1. Launch Capturly
2. Your microphone should appear in the device list
3. If using a camera, it should show in the preview
4. The audio level meter should respond to your voice

Uninstalling

macOS

1. Quit Capturly if running
2. Drag Capturly from Applications to Trash
3. Optionally, remove settings from ~/Library/Application Support/Capturly

Windows

1. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps
2. Find Capturly and click Uninstall
3. Follow the uninstall wizard
