Recording in your browser
You don’t need to install anything to record with Capturly. The web app records studio-quality audio and video locally in your browser — the same local-first approach as the desktop app — and works on any modern machine.
This is the fastest way to start, and it’s how remote guests join a session without downloading software.
How it works
Recording happens on your own device. As you record, Capturly writes the media to your browser’s private storage (OPFS) — nothing is streamed to a server for capture — and when you stop you either download the file or, for a multi-participant session, upload it to the host.
Because capture is local, a bandwidth dip never degrades your recording quality.
On a paid plan, a copy also streams to your cloud library while you record, so closing the tab by accident doesn’t cost you the take.

Firefox is blocked rather than degraded: Capturly shows a “Firefox isn’t supported yet” screen and recording won’t start. Use Chrome, Edge, or Safari 16.4+, or install the desktop app.
You’ll be asked to grant camera and microphone permissions the first time you record.
Quality
The browser records H.264 video with AAC audio in an MP4 (see File Formats).

Video resolution is not capped by the browser. The web app offers the same rungs as the desktop app — Auto, 4K, 1440p, 1080p, 720p — limited only by your plan’s ceiling and what your camera can negotiate.
Audio is capped at 48 kHz. For the 96 kHz / 24-bit WAV master, use the desktop app.
No sync beep in browser recordings
The sync beep is produced by the desktop and mobile recording pipelines. Browser recordings don’t carry it, so if you’re aligning a browser take against other tracks, use a clap, a countdown, or the waveform itself as your reference.
Watermark on Starter
Starter-plan video carries a small Capturly watermark in the bottom-right corner. Any paid plan removes it. In a session, the host’s plan decides — a Starter guest in a Pro host’s session records unwatermarked. See Licensing.
Recording with remote guests
You can host and join multi-participant sessions entirely in the browser. Each participant records locally at full quality; when everyone finishes, guest recordings upload to the host automatically. Hosting requires a Pro or Team plan — see Online Mode.
When to use the desktop app instead
Choose the desktop app when you want:
- 96 kHz / 24-bit WAV audio
- The separate high-fidelity audio master alongside the video
- The sync beep baked into your takes
- Fully offline solo recording with no browser tab
